Jazz and Rain in San Sebastian

Our first night in San Sebastian (after diving in to those pintxos!) we went to a free jazz festival on the beach. The opener was a big band from Ole Miss (Mississippi State) that was astoundingly good. The students were ages 18-26, and were all highly accomplished musicians. The director did an impressive job of making exciting and professional performances with these young people. Mr. Large and I love big band so we were in our glory. We had the luck of sitting at a table with the wife of the director who was filming the performance so we got the inside scoop. The band was headed to Marciac, France next to perform at a larger festival. Headliners included Norah Jones! This was their first tour to Europe and they nailed it, Kudos to these great young musicians. https://youtu.be/rhIXdTCZbgs

The next artist was Sara Dowling, who hails from London. A beautiful voice and performance, with a more traditional take on a few standards and some original pieces written by Ms. Dowling. Truly lovely. https://youtu.be/cemAlft5fGk

Sorry to say that our next few days were filled with rain. We still walked around town and tried to see a few sights but we had to duck in for cover many times. A visit to the San Telmo Museum was on our list of rainy day activities. We saw a wonderful exhibit of advertising posters for San Sebastian through the years. Staring in the late 1800s, the town started to promote itself as a seaside destination with lots of other activities besides paddling in the surf- like bullfighting- to keep you happy. Called Clima Ideal (Ideal Climate), you can see it here.
