Bilbao charms

Bilbao is continuing to delight us in its beauty and laid-back vibe. Its the perfect gateway to a long vacation as we have slooowed down from the past few weeks of getting ready to be away for three months. We've been walking a lot- ummm...maybe I mentioned that in the first post? For me, it's awesome as you really get to see the good, the bad and the ugly of a city. Note-very little bad and ugly in this place. We are in love with it's livable downtown built around a beautiful river and its lovely architecture. By 5pm the pedestrian streets are filled with people drinking beer or cider and snacking on the ever-present pintxos.

Our last day here was Saturday, July 22. We walked by the Guggenheim again and then went for dinner at a place Mr. Large read about in "The Guardian", one of his favorite online newspapers. Lots of English "football" news to keep him happy! It was down by the river in an industrial area, but to our surprise there was a boat museum on the way. Many historic boats in drydock.

On to a wonderful dinner! Our server Angela spoke English very well and helped us through the menu. We made up our minds to try some foods that we had never eaten before, Tonight we ate winkles- which appeared to be a tiny little snail that we had to stick a pin into to pull out of the shell. Not my favorite- but we want to be adventerous and you have to start somewhere!

On to San Sebastian tomorrow! We are taking a bus through the mountains to enjoy a few days beachside. We'll keep you posted!
